How To Get From Boston Airport To Downtown

Option 1: MBTA Silver Line (SL1) Bus Option 2: MBTA Blue Line Subway Option 3: MBTA Ferry Option 4: Taxi / Rideshare

Option 1: MBTA Silver Line (SL1) Bus

  • Travel time: 30 minutes
  • In addition to being the most affordable (it’s free after all), the Silver Line Bus starts at Terminal A and continues counter-clockwise stopping at every arrivals area for each terminal.
  • After running underneath the harbor, the Silver Line bus makes several stops in the Seaport District before terminating at South Station. One of Boston’s major intermodal train station hubs (the other being the apparently named North Station, a short subway ride away). While the Silver Line is free to South Station from the Airport, additional fare is required to travel beyond on the MBTA network with a starting one way fare of $2.40
  • Fare is $0.00 to take the Silver Line.

Option 2: MBTA Blue Line Subway

  • Travel time: 20 minutes
  • Hop on the free Massport Shuttle. This bus stops at every terminal at the Ground Transportation area for Arrivals. Note, there are multiple numbered routes, all of which are available. Take the Massport Shuttle to Airport Station on the Blue Line. Take the Blue Line southbound towards the terminal at Bowdoin Station in the heart of downtown Boston. The Blue Line offers connections to the Green, Orange, and Red Lines which are a quick transfer to North and South Stations.
  • Fare is $0.00 for the Massport Shuttle while the MBTA subway is $2.40.

Option 3: MBTA Ferry

  • Travel time: 30 minutes
  • Not many commercial airports in the world can claim that they have a ferry service to downtown but Boston Logan is one of them. Starting at any one of the terminals, take Massport shuttle bus 66 to Logan Airport Wharf. It’s very important to take the Bus 66 as this is the only shuttle bus that stops at the ferry dock. From Logan Airport Wharf hop on the F2H ferry for a short ride across the harbor to Long Wharf right in the heart of downtown Boston. Soak up the salt air while you embrace the scenic Boston skyline as you ride – free from the constraints of that plane for hours.

  • Fare is $3.70.

Option 4: Taxi / Rideshare

  • Travel time: 15-20 minutes
  • Undoubtedly, the most expensive option from our list but the most private. In addition to taxis, Uber and Lyft offer private rideshare services from the airport. If you arrive at rush hour expect to sit in traffic. Expect to pay about $30-40 for a ride.
