How To Get From San Diego International Airport To Downtown

Option 1: MTS Route 992 Bus

  • Travel time: 15 minutes
  • For those on a budget, consider riding theMTS Route 992 to downtown. Running every 30 minutes and stopping at Terminals 1 and 2, route 992 runs directly to downtown San Diego arriving at Santa Fe Depot.
  • Consider purchasing PRONTO Card, San Diego’s integrated fare card.  
  • Fare for MTS is $2.50.

Option 2: Shuttle Bus / San Diego Flyer

  • Some hotels and private companies offer shuttle bus service from San Diego Airport to downtown. Check with San Diego Airport’s Information page.
  • Of note, the San Diego Flyer is a free shuttle bus that heads to the Old Town Transit Center with connections to Amtrak, Coaster commuter rail and the San Diego Trolley.

Option 3: Taxi / Rideshare

  • Travel time: 10-15 minutes
  • Undoubtedly, the most expensive option from our list but the most private. In addition to taxis, Uber and Lyft offer private rideshare services from the airport. Expect to pay at least $10-20 for a ride.

Option 4: Walking

  • Travel time: 1 hour
  • Yes, you really can. And with San Diego’s exceptional sunshine, why not? San Diego Airport is close to downtown and the waterfront. But leaving Terminals 1 and 2 by foot can be tricky. Head south towards North Harbor Drive and walk clockwise around San Diego Bay. Walking time is approximately 1 hour.
