Option 1: SMART Train / Golden Gate Ferry
- Travel time: 3 hours
- Undoubtedly, the most scenic but with a caveat: lots of transfers. From Sonoma Airport take the on demandSMART Connect shuttle service from the airport to the Sonoma County Airport Station (the train station is 1 mile from the airport, walking is possible but not advisable if you have luggage). Download theRide Pingo app and check theairport page for more information. Catch the shuttle at the bus stop just south of the terminal.
- From Sonoma County Airport Station, takeSMART (Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit) the entire length to Larkspur Station. At Larkspur, walk the short distance (or utilize the above mentionedSMART Connect) to Larkspur Ferry Terminal and ride theGolden Gate Ferry service to the grand San Francisco Ferry Terminal in the heart of downtown.
- This scenic commuter route takes you through picturesque Sonoma wine country and offers amazing views of San Francisco Bay as you head to downtown. Consider purchasing Clipper Card, the Bay Area’s integrated fare card to the city.
- Fare for the shuttle is $1.50. Fare for SMART is $7.50. Fare for the ferry is $14.00.
- Scenic
Option 2: Sonoma County Transit 62 Bus / Golden Gate Transit 101 Bus
- Travel time: 3 hours
- Not nearly as scenic but certainly the cheapest. TakeSonoma County Transit Route 62 from the bus stop just south of the terminal to Santa Rosa Transit Mall. Transfer toGolden Gate Transit Route 101 and ride over the Golden Gate Bridge and into downtown San Francisco. Note: riding the bus at peak traffic periods will lead to delays.
- Consider purchasingClipper Card, the Bay Area’s integrated fare card to the city.
- Fare for the Sonoma County Transit is $2.10. Fare for the Golden Gate Transit is $14.50.
- Cheapest
Option 3: Shuttle Bus / Limousine
- Sonoma County Airport primarily serves the North Bay counties of Marin, Sonoma, and Napa (Wine Country for tourists visiting) so while plenty of shuttle and limousine services are offered from the airport, not all will drive from Sonoma Airport to downtown San Francisco. Be sure to call ahead and check the airport website before arriving.
Option 4: Taxi / Rideshare
- Travel time: 1.5-2 hours
- Undoubtedly, the most expensive option from our list but the most private. In addition to taxis, Uber and Lyft offer private rideshare services from the airport. Expect to pay at least $100 for a ride. Be aware of surge pricing and heavy traffic crossing the Golden Gate Bridge.
