How To Get From Toronto City Airport To Downtown

Option 1: TTC 509 Harbourfront Streetcar Option 2: Shuttle Bus Option 3: Walk Option 3: Taxi / Rideshare

Option 1: TTC 509 Harbourfront Streetcar

  • Travel time: 20 minutes
  • Cheapest: TTC 509 Harbourfront Streetcar
  • After exiting from the pedestrian tunnel or ferry (one of the shortest scheduled ferry routes in the world clocking in at a whopping 90 seconds of travel time) at Billy Bishop Airport you are a very short walk to a major transit route: the TTC Streetcar system. If you’re arriving from City Airport to downtown Toronto then route 509 is your ride to Union Station
  • If your final destination is outside of downtown, walk one more block north to catch 511 Bathurst to Bathurst Station to connect with the TTC subway system and avoid the downtown at rush hour.
  • Fare is $3.35.Read information about the TTC 509 Harbourfront Streetcar here.

Option 2: Shuttle Bus

  • Travel time: 20 minutes
  • Arguably the most convenient option with free Wi-Fi. The YTZ shuttle buses operate every 15 minutes from 5:00am to about midnight depending on the night. Departing from the Passenger Tunnel Access Building of YTZ to the west side of the Fairmont Royal York Hotel (York Street) just across the street (Front Street) from Union Station. Note that the shuttle bus pick up/ drop off is at the northeast corner of Front and York Streets. For more information about the shuttle bus from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to Toronto’s Union Station visit here. This shuttle service from Toronto Island Airport to downtown runs in traffic so travel times can be longer depending on rush hour or major events in the downtown core.

Option 3: Walk

  • Travel time: 30 minutes
  • If it’s a nice day, why not? Billy Bishop Airport is roughly a 30 minute walk to downtown Toronto. YTZ has a unique distinction of being one of the closest major passenger airports to it’s respective downtown in the world. Seriously, YTZ is the closest a passenger flight can land as you can get. Might as well take advantage to get off the plane, stretch your legs, make use of your wheeled luggage, and finish your journey by walking the final portion from Billy Bishop to downtown Toronto. Best of all, it’s free. Even better, you’ll reach those 10,000 steps!

Option 3: Taxi / Rideshare

  • Undoubtedly, the most expensive option from our list but the most private. Uber & Lyft offer transportation services from the airport, but expect to pay top-dollar for reaching that destination. Note that rush hour traffic in Toronto can result in heavy gridlock so be prepared for  surge pricing and a longer ride. Expect to pay at least $15 for a ride.
